Safe and Sound Protocol
Stephanie is a Certified Safe and Sound Professional.
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidenced based listening therapy developed by Dr. Stephen Porges and based on decades of research, designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through specially filtered music. As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to retune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration, feelings of safety, and resilience. The SSP has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences and more.
By sending cues of safety through filtered therapeutic music, the Safe and Sound Protocol helps to regulate the autonomic nervous system by building a foundation for awareness, embodiment, and resilience. We all have patterns or tendencies in our nervous system that developed over time and in response to our experiences. These patterns influence how we think, feel, and behave. Because our experiences are unique, your response to SSP will be unique. The Safe and Sound Protocol can support a broad range of physical, emotional, and cognitive experiences.
The SSP involves listening to specifically filtered music through headphones alongside a provider. The music is more than just relaxing, as you listen it sends cues of safety to the nervous system which can help you feel more calm, engaged, and balanced.
